CAMBODIAN FILMMAKERS’ NIGHT: “PUTHISASTRA STUDENT TELEVISION”
7PM: “University of Puthisastra Student Television” (UPSTV) is a student filmmaking society which gives young Cambodians the opportunity to learn video techniques & create their own productions. For the last 8 months, four student groups have been filming documentaries and dramas on subjects of their own choosing which have varied from films about street children and drug abuse to more lighthearted comedy features. Although none of the 18 students involved in making these films had any video experience prior to joining the club, they are now developing their own styles and will hopefully make a great contribution to the future Cambodian film industry.

“BERESINA”: BLACK COMEDY FROM THE ALPS WITH GERALDINE CHAPLIN
7PM: Weird jokes, surprisingly good actors and a satirical plot that gets better and better in course of the movie make “BERESINA” (1999, 108mins) a sadistic pleasure for every viewer. Director Daniel Schmid chronicles the story of Irina, a Russian call girl arriving in Switzerland, whose innocent attempt to live the high life there triggers unintended coup d’etat. BERESINA was noted for its barbed with clever production design and a fine comic performance by actress Yelena Panova when it was screened at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival. The film with Geraldine Chapline in a supporting role is screened in its German version with English Subtitles.
Video postcards are short films made by people or groups with help from a professional film maker. In them the participants can say and show whatever they want.
The films we are showing were made by participants in India and Cambodia in 2005 and 2006 with help from Film makers Darren Swallow and Christine Bouteiller as part of the 8th festival of cinema and
