SACRED PATHS TO HAPPINESS: PAUL HORN IN TIBET AND BHUTAN
7PM: American jazz flautist Paul Horn (born 1930) is a pioneer of New Age music. The documentary SACRED TIBET: THE PATH TO MOUNT KALASHI (2006, 86 mins) is directed by Tom Vendetti and narrated by Kris Kristofferson. The American crew follows Horn and his teacher Lama Tenzin on their journey through Chinese-occupied Tibet. Horn’s music also accompanies Vendetti’s second film BHUTAN: TAKING THE MIDDLE PATH TO HAPPINESS (2006, 60 mins), which won two Emmy Awards. It examines Bhutan’s policy of “Gross National Happiness,” which emphasizes environmental and cultural preservation, economic development through hydroelectric power, and transparent governance.

“LOVE AND TIME”: ROOSTER’S PHOTO EXHIBIT OPENS AT ART CAFE
6PM: Cambodian interior designer and photographer Ma Channara is called “RooSter”. After studies in Cambodia and Singapore he won the first prize at the CJCC photo contest in 2008. In October 2010 he launched his first photo exhibition LOVE AND TIME at Nosh Café Bar, Phnom Penh. Part 2 at Meta House features a high-glossy photo series about young love in modern Phnom Penh, resembling the storyboard of a Cambodian TV soap opera. RooSter’s artful work is influenced by fashion photography, conceived with a team of models and media professionals. His pictures highlight the new urban lifestyle of Phnom Penh’s young generation within a changing society.

“LOST LOVES”: CAMBODIAN INDIE FILM ABOUT THE GENOCIDE
7PM: In the 1980s Chhay Bora studied drama at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. He became the country’s first independent movie producer. His first film LOST LOVE is set in the time of the Khmer Rouge regime. The story is based on the true story of Chhay Bora’s mother-in-law Nun Sila, whose father is executed by the Khmer Rouge soldiers. LOST LOVE premiered at the Cambodian International Film Festival in October 2010. At Meta House we sell tickets (5USD) to raise funds for the international distribution. One drink is included. Khmer students receive a 50% discount when presenting their student ID. Filmmaker will be present at the screening (Q&A).

GLOBE PROJECT FILM FEST OPENS TONIGHT AT META HOUSE
7PM: HOTSPOTS is a film about climate change and global warming, funded by Heinrich-Boell-Foundation. 8PM: UK director Allan Michaud depicts environmental & conservation issues across Cambodia. FEED THE BEARS is about rescued bears at Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre. REDD IN PREY LONG was shown during the Climate Change talks 2009 in Copenhagen. CONSERVATION AGREEMENTS IN THE CARDAMOMS demonstrates how local communities can protect forests and wildlife. CHHOUK is a short film about an elephant and attempts to fit him with a prosthetic foot. CAMBODIA’S NATURAL HERITAGE includes the only existing footage of the now believed to be extinct national animal of Cambodia, the Kouprey. Filmmaker will be present at screenings (Q&A).

FROM THE PHILLIPINES TO CAMBODIA: GLOBE FILM FEST (DAY 2)
7PM: SIGNOS Film from the Phillipines about Climate Change and Global Warming; 8PM: UK director Allan Michaud depicts environmental & conservation issues across Cambodia. SEIMA PROTECTION FOREST takes the audience to Mondulkiri province, arguably Cambodia’s premier site for wildlife. CONSERVATION INTERNATIONAL GREATER MEKONG PROGRAM discusses the links between the Cardamom Mountains, the Tonle Sap Lake and the Mekong River. INDIGENOUS LAND TENURE is about a pilot project providing land security for indigenous communities in Cambodia. AFTER CUTTING THE FOREST shows the experiences of villagers in Battambang, where almost total deforestation has left remote communities without many of the natural resources they require to survive. DOUC PARTY is a short film made from camera trap photos of the inquisitive Douc Langur. Filmmaker will be present at screenings (Q&A).

OPEN WORKSHOP & GLOBE PROJECT FILM FEST (DAY 3)
From 2PM-4P we invite you to an open workshop with the PHNOM PENH STRING ORCHESTRA in our gallery. ANGELUS by Franz Liszt is introduced and conducted by Anton Isselhardt. 7PM: TACKLING THE CHALLENGE Film about Climate Change and Global Warming, funded by the British Embassy. 8PM: The Mekong sustaining the lives of 65 million people is under dire threat from hydro-electric dams. It’s unique ecosystem is unlikely to survive the impact of Cambodian dams in Stung Treng and Sambor. Tom Fawthrop’s new film WHERE HAVE ALL THE FISH GONE? (21 mins, 2010) is is followed by Peter Degen’s breathtaking documentary WHEN THE FLOOD RECEDES (2006, 60 mins) about Cambodian fishermen. Also screening: MY RIVER, MY LIFE by young Khmer filmmaker Chum Sophea and the community media project STATEMENTS ABOUT THE LOWER SESAN DAM.
