Startup Weekend Education: Improve education through tech

Startup Weekend is an event that gathers technologists and entrepreneurs to tackle social challenges using business approaches. From September 16 – 18, 2016, the Startup Weekend with exclusive focus on education will take place at The Canopy, Raintree (#299 Preah Ang Duong) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Educators, technology geeks, businesspeople, and investors will be at the event to pitch their business concept, prototype their proposed solutions in team, and present it to the judges, including:

  • Dr. Sopheap Seng, National Institute of Posts, Telecommunications and ICT President
  • Stephen Paterson, Mekong Business Challenge Co-Founder and Program Coordinator
  • Nataly Rodionova, IT Academy STEP Managing Director
  • Glenn Miller, Banking and Telecoms industries Consultant
  • Bolene Pech, The Westline Development Group President and CEO

While social issues such as agriculture and health are so fundamental, “exploring and creating more sustainable solutions to improve learning and teaching will be the main theme at Startup Weekend Education for three days,” said Sok Leap, one of the lead organisers of Startup Weekend, which has been held in the Cambodian capital since 2011.

Startup Weekend, which has been organised in over 150 countries around world, usually provides an ideal environment for aspiring entrepreneurs to connect with software developers and change makers to be successful and learn as much as possible in just 54 hours. The Startup Weekend Education is the first edition to take place in Cambodia.

The event organisers expect the participants will build early prototype solutions, and they can get connected with interested investors to take their business concept to the next stage for their startup.

The Startup Weekend Cambodia is partially supported by [email protected], a U.S. Department of State-funded program that aims to help accelerate the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Lower Mekong sub-region (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam).
