The White City sidtaum in London hosted greyhound meetings until September 2004, after which is was demolished to make way for the BBC offices which now occupy the site. The Pogues song makes reference to the demolition.

It seems you have not been told the truth behind this story. Sambo is in excrutiating pain with a severly absessed foot. She has been offered a home in a sanctuary with other elephants. Full medical care has also been offered. But some people seem to be working tirelessly to see her kept in Phnom Penh. Recent video shows that she is now trying to walk only on her toes to escape the terrible pain in her foot. VET report says she needs total rest and immediate medical treatment. Those preventing her from receiving this are not motivated by love for Sambo. How could they be, when she is being abused every day, by being made to continue to work. Please help the people who are truly trying to help her, before she is totally lame and collapses.
