4PM: Winner of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize, the docu RESTREPO (2010, 93 mins) by Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington chronicles the deployment of a U.S. platoon of American soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley, considered to be one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military. 7PM: Join star actor Keanu Reeves on a tour of the past and the future of cinema in SIDE BY SIDE (2012, 99 mins, English). 7PM: Be our guest for the Cambodian premiere screening of Mark Hammond’s new documentary PHARMACIDE: THE MEKONG (2012, 52 mins, English). It focuses on the production, distribution and human impact of the proliferation of substandard and counterfeit medicines throughout the Greater Mekong Subregion. This is the first film to provide a comprehensive regional overview and to highlight private and public policing and law enforcement efforts to confront this illegal trade. Mark Hammond will attend the screening and hold a Q&A. 9PM: INVISIBLE AGENT is a Phnom-Penh-based electronica music label, showcasing intern. PUPPETS BEYOND BORDERS: PHOTO EXHIBITION & FILM PREMIERE
6PM: In 2011, puppeteers from Germany, France, Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia came together for a workshop in Chiang Mai. They were commissioned by Goethe-Institute & Institute Francais to create a collaborative piece. Swedish photographer ANDERS JIRAS followed this unique exchange project, made possible through the Elysee-Fund, with his camera. Tonight’s exhibition opening is accompanied by the world premiere screening of the project docu PUPPETS BEYOND BORDERS (2013, 37 mins, English subs), filmed by a Burmese-Cambodian team from Yangon Film School and Media Education and Training Academy, Phnom Penh. Filmmakers and project facilitators will be in attendance.
