Khmer media is a ‘battleground’ for old ways & new approaches when it comes to gender.
While more entities are recognising the role women play in and outside newsrooms, prevailing mindsets and traditions tend to slow down progress in gender equality.
The “Women’s Media Center” (WMC) is a Phnom Penh NGO using TV/radio to promote social change. Recently filmmaker Nico Mesterharm led a workshop, where 18 WMC staff members produced three documentaries with a gender focus. They tell stories of a female moto-dub, a teenage newspaper seller and the deceased grandmother of one of the workshop’s participants. Be our guest for tonight’s premiere screenings!
