Tuol Sleng museum: a Memory of the World

VOA Khmer reported on the first anniversary that marked National Museum of Tuol Sleng, which was listed as a Unesco Memory of the World on July 31, 2009.

“Its significant and outstanding value were a part of the Memory of the World, stemming from its testament to man’s inhumanity to man, women and children, and from the documentation of one of the most extreme examples of crimes against humanity of the 20th Century,” Unesco’s representative to Cambodia, Teruo Jinnal, said during a ceremony Monday morning.

Cambodian radio journalist Kong Sothanarith has the detail here.

Meanwhile, Associated Press said last week “Cambodia plans to renovate the skull-filled memorial on the site of the Khmer Rouge’s former “killing fields” for the first time since it was built two decades ago.”
