French drawer and illustrator Virginie Broquet graduated from Decorative Arts school in Strasbourg, France. Over the past 20 years, she traveled in more than 30 countries, bringing from these trips notebooks she illustrated with her encounters and impressions. She also authored a graphic novel, Suzy Wong et les esprits, released earlier this year (Gope editions).
As part of an artist residency, she came in Cambodia to share her technique with the students of the University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh. During a week-long worshop, she invited them to rediscover Phnom Penh city through drawing in situ – which is a new experience for these young artists in progress. Students have also been taught ballpoint pen drawing technique and self-portrait, which they were able to use unconstrained, while echoing Virginie Broquet’s works.
